Japanese music powerhouse Ryuichi Sakamoto will release his soundtrack to Nagasaki: Memories of My Son, a 2015 film about a family that was tragically affected by the infamous nuclear bombing, on September 23 via Milan Records.
Sakamoto was approached by the movies director, Yogi Yamada, and lead actress, Sayuri Yoshinaga, after having previously collaborated with the latter. Starting in 2012, the two have been participating in events where Yoshinaga recites poetry written by A-bomb survivors to Sakamotos piano accompaniment.
Sakamoto is known for being a founding member of the pioneering electronic music band Yellow Magic Orchestra, as well as a remarkably prolific and multifaceted career as a solo artist, composer, producer, and pianist. He has scored a number of films and video games, including several big-budget Hollywood productions; most recently, he co-created the score to last years winner of three Academy Awards, The Revenant.
