Even with small audiences at the beginning, we were playing with an ambition and a growing confidence that we knew what we wanted to do and were taking it really seriously
We knew we were different from other bands doing the post-punk thing
We imagined the kind of joyful, exciting act we would want to see when we go out, and created our own "dream band" from that. We would be in the smoking area, pissed, talking about how we should start our own band. Soon enough, we decided to do it for real
Our whole mission statement is very theatrical. We love being intentional and indulgent. I mean, we have a composer! We want to flex that!
Prelude to Ecstasy is as assured a debut album as you will find — it is cohesive, paced well and is sequenced to carry its momentum over 12 tracks. After an operatic introduction, the record starts in high gear with "Burn Alive", a rousing gothic stomper, before settling into its slow burners and winding back up for the euphoria of the crowd favourite "Nothing Matters".
Many think that creating this album was very difficult, but we do not think that was the case. It really was all very fun and enjoyable, we are not saying it was easy, because of course there were many challenges, but living through all those challenges only excited us. James Ford (producer) was very good to us and we knew we had nothing to prove, it was just have fun
We think that, despite the challenges, the creation of this album was a fun process, since we always knew what we wanted. It is like going to an exam very prepared, you have a good time, because you know everything they can ask you. In this case, we enjoyed it so much that we were even able to lengthen the album and add more tracks than planned
